East-West Gateway Council of Governments

What is East-West Gateway?

The East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the St. Louis region. The Council's Board, which meets every month, is chiefly composed of elected officials from throughout the region, and is charged by the federal government to pick the road, bridge, and transit projects that will receive federal funding.

What does East-West Gateway do?

Any transportation project in the St. Louis region that receives federal money (which is almost every major infrastructure investment, like the New I-64 and the Airport-to-East St. Louis MetroLink alignment) must be chosen by EWG and conform to EWG's 20-year Transportation Plan. You can read about EWG's vision for the region, its public engagement process, and the specific details of the region's transportation plan, at EWG's website.

What is East-West Gateway's involvement in Moving Transit Forward?

East-West Gateway has been working with Metro throughout this entire process, helping us to make sure that Metro's proposed plan conforms with the region's approved Transportation Plan. When we finish the long-range plan, we will present it for approval and adoption, both to Metro's Board of Commissioners and to the East-West Gateway's Board.
